Inside RashDefense™: The Science Behind MILK Baby Diapers' Award-Winning Rash Protection
At MILK, every baby diaper we make is built around RashDefense™ technology, engineered to answer one simple question: what actually stops a rash before it starts? The answer comes down to a few details you’d never notice from the packaging, so here’s what’s really going on.
The Science Behind Absorption
The longer moisture sits against skin, the more likely it is to cause irritation, so speed matters just as much as capacity. RashDefense™ lives in the top sheet and core of every diaper we make: our Flexi Tape uses a dual layer of wood pulp and super absorbent polymer (SAP), while our Yoga Pant uses a SAP only core for more movement. In our internal testing, this pulled moisture away from skin in under 10 seconds.
Why pH Matters
Baby urine isn’t neutral, it ranges from mildly acidic to fairly alkaline, and repeated exposure outside a safe range can leave skin more prone to irritation over time. We lab test our diapers at a pH of 6.4, within the range considered safe for direct skin contact.
Why Breathability Matters Too
A diaper can absorb liquid perfectly and still irritate skin, because trapped heat and humidity cause problems of their own, separate from wetness. That’s why we engineer our backsheet to let air through without giving up leak protection.
Why We Keep the Ingredient List Simple
Some diapers add fragrance or botanical extracts to stand out on shelf, even though these additions don’t really improve performance. We leave them out, so there’s simply less for sensitive skin to react to.
Together, this combination earned RashDefense™ the Best Rash-Free Diaper award at the Parents’ Choice Awards in both 2025 and 2026.
The details you can’t see are usually the ones that matter most, so you can focus on what really matters: your little one.
